Country Mouse Scrapbooker,
Making your memories last,
From albums to heirlooms,
This is your family's past.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Scrapbooking!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PHOTO ALBUM AND A MEMORY ALBUM?

The difference is the recorded memories. It's true, a photograph is worth a thousand words, but without a record of the event in words, there is a lot you can't necessarily tell from a photograph.

The journaling should tell you in words or in context, who, what, why, when, where and how. If it is an album of a person, then the name does not necessarily need to appear on every page, but should be included regarding group photographs. The same applies to an event album, and so on.

Dawn

HARVEST AT SUNRISE

The dew hangs heavy on the crop, bowing slightly the heavy heads with its weight. Ripening in stages over the weeks of harvest, the wild rice beckons again and again. There is no wind to lay it down in the still hours of dawn. The time is right. There will be time to rest when the winds come up and the heads dip low, too low to pick. Quietly the morning sun burns off the dew. It rises wistfully in gossamer waves. The bark of the harvester breaks the stillness and the day begins.

Recording this type of information is called JOURNALING, and this is the main difference between a photo album and a memory album. There are other differences. The photos are cropped where necessary. Photo safe adhesives are used to arrange the photos attractively on the page. Coloured paper is added as background, borders, or matting. Die cuts and stickers can be used as embellishments and a host of other mementos can be included as well. All of these products must be photo-safe in order to protect the photographs from damage. Some mementos may have to be scanned as they are not photo safe or are too bulky. There is usually a page title, to an album and sometimes a dedication page and a table of contents, but, there is always journaling no matter how brief, either in captions, point form or sentence form.

WHY SCRAPBOOK?

The benefits of scrapbooking are substantial. There is a great personal satisfaction that you will feel every time you complete a single page, let alone an entire album! This is a very life affirming activity. You will relive a host of happy times and you will find it comforting in times of sorrow, stress and sickness. You will also know that you have rescued photographs from unsafe environments, validated the original photographer's investment of sentiment, time and money; honoured family members, friends and events; and bridged the generations, as words alone cannot.

THE COUNTRY MOUSE SCRAPBOOKER CREED
I am a Country Mouse Scrapbooker.
I will honour my ancestors, my family, my self and my descendents.
I will document my family history as a journalist, historian and artist.

I will assemble the photographs and memories of original efforts.
I will invest carefully in a safe environment for my work.
I will give freely of my diligence, faith, pride, gratitude and love.
I will create an heirloom.

I will bring affirmation, pride and joy to my family.
I will bring comfort and hope to the sad hearts of those I love,
in their sickness and sorrow.

I will combine the intrinsic value of tangible memorabilia
with the intangible values in my heart and dedication in my self,
in every scrapbook I create.
I will bring irrefutable justification and validation
to my scrapbooking endeavors.

I will acknowledge and celebrate the comfort, joy
and self-satisfaction that scrapbooking brings to my soul.
